I'm still excited!
HI happy people,
Santa hasn't been in Serbia yet. :)
We celebrate Cristmas on 7.01., so there's still some hope.
I have seen many times 30cm or more snow for 24h, even overnight up there, and considering insecurity of long-term (10+) days weather predictions....still no reason to be (very) upset :yay:
Things are starting to look a little better, There is a chance of the UK getting a cold northerly in a weeks time which could be strong enough to push the low pressure into Southern Europe... With a bit of luck this could mean snow... But more importantly it could solve the anticyclone problem that is rapidly turning kopaonik green.
Hopefully this will mean those going on the 14th will be greeted by much colder conditions.
For us lot on the 21st the anticyclone should be long gone and hopefully we'll be making snow angels in 70cm's of snow (haha if only)
No actually I went third week in Jan 2006, and we had one night where it must have dumped 30cm at least overnight. the other thing to remember is that Kop is the only high point around so All the snow in the region gets blown up it. there were whole trees buried in snow drifts... I can rub it in though as I'm going on the 14th.. At least the beer is excellent and cheap.
mmmm beer...
I have heard before beer is top recomandation for Serbia in England. Actually beer is excelent, and costs about 1.5-2euro in cafe, or 1\2euro in shop.
I'm usually there on end of january or begining of february, and can't remember any problems with snow conditions!
bah beer is disgusting! What are the prices like for the local spirits? If the snow fall stays low I'll be needing some!
Hi there I've been in Belgrade for a week now, here local spirit - rakija (rah-kee-yah) is 120 dinars (one pound) tops in a pub, but Kop should be slightly more expensive.
I would always go for beer me - Tuborg or Jelen or Lav :cug:
By the way I've just seen couple of snowflakes landing in fornt of me here in Belgrade - so hopefuly there will be some up there tomorrow. Can't wait to go ;)
mmm rakija
local brand is a plum brandy=rakija (shljivovica-if anyone can spell it- please...). Of course it's also made of grape, apricot (especially good, and slightly more expensive)..., but plums are national fruit. In winter, what you'll probablly like the most is hot, cooked rakija - local speciality. There's also a cooked vine-my recommendation. Prices are ~ 1-1.5 pound.
Are we going offtopic?
Those going on the 14th... you may get a little pow :dziveli:
Theres a good chance that fresh snow will fall around the day you arrive (with smaller snow showers up until the day you arrive)
Hope is not lost yet.
Just tried looking at the webcam and i cant see a thing (Yes i know its dark, but you can normally see something)
Is it snowing really hard or is it foggy?
Also, the other webcam (the live one) hasn't been working for me. Same for everyone else?
Just fog AGAIN then!!!
This is a nightmare, where's the chuffing snow!!!
Just fog AGAIN then!!!
This is a nightmare, where's the chuffing snow!!! If I can ski when I go it will be a bonus :dontknow:
The fancy webcam has stopped working for me as well... doesn't look like much snow fell last night.
However, I reckon we could see a light snow shower/s on every day (bar a couple) for the next two weeks, unfortunatly in most cases it wont be anything to get excited about (but at least we're on the right track)... I do think theres the chance that a couple of days could see between 5-10cm's fall.
Second half of January looks even better :ok:
I have just looked on the jatkopaonik.com webcam and it says at the top there is 16cm of snow.. Im going to Kopaonik tommorrow for new year so hopefully there will be some snow to ski on. I read on a website that they are expecting 4cm snowfall on monday night so i suppose thats a start. Whats this live webcam site? and does anyone have any information on how much more snow is going to fall in the next week? Thanks,
Vedran

click on the link under the webcam on the left & type "kop" for the username and password.
There's a few chances for snow next week, so keep the faith ;)
I reckon the first week of January could see between 15 & 40cm of snow (depending on whether it falls as snow, sleet or rain)... but then it looks like a return to the mild :(
Wish I'd booked for February :awm2:
We can see what slopes are open now (good job stevs), but judging from the swarms of people walking past the webcam all the snow will of been brushed off the slopes by the time we arrive.
Hey JC, I would just put it down to absolutely shite luck!! Any other year the snow would have been falling for 2 months by now, this is one of those freak once a decade incidents which is sent to p*** us all off.
I blame the school run mums in their 4 x 4's for polluting the environment ;)
I wouldn't mind but I almost transfered my kopaonik holiday (free of charge) to a high altitude resort.... guess which resorts are getting 1 metre of snow this week.
I decided to stick with serbia because i'm bored of the commercial nature of Alpine resorts, I wanted to try a resort with character... Whether I'd of traded that character for snow is another matter ;)
Next week certainly does look better, at least 20cm should fall... As for the week after; who knows you may even get a little pow on the 13th as a welcome to kop present:

I should really learn to look at the glass as half full :dziveli:
the real time webcams working again...
the conditions dont look good today... lots of greenery.
I think we could see the biggest dump we've had yet between the 19th & 22nd.
New snow cover will be after January 10.:dontknow:
We got back from Kop yesterday, so if anyone has any questions about the resort then let me know. We snowboarded every day between 25th - 30th, and although it wasn't an epic we had alot of fun on the snow that was there... 5 - 20cm. There were only 2 lifts open, the 2 big 4 seaters but they didn't charge us for a lift pass!
We would have been more than happy to stay another week!
I've just had an email come through from Snowforecast.com - a 3 day forecast issued at 12am on 31st December. It forecasts light snow on Tuesday morning of 5cm and heavey snow at night of 15cms...
Bring on the metre and a half which we had last year! :yay:
Snowforecast predicts around 29cm for the next week :ski: (my 15-40 wasn't far off)
Bata Bane, I'd guess its going to be much later than the 10th.... if we're lucky the new base will come in the thrid/fourth week of January... The second week of January could have less snowfall than the first.
Mikri, you promised me over 100cm's of snow!:awm2:
The Apreski looked pretty good from what I saw of it, there are plenty of bars to try out. I thought "Hawa Krya" next to the Burton Shop and "Exit" were the best. There was a disco as well in the main complex, but it wasn't open when we were there. Or it might have been open but I was too knackered to be out late.
I took my board that had only seen 3 days of use and it is now badly in need of a service. If there is some more snow forecast then you should be ok. It kind of depends on how you ride and where you go.
The hire boards looked crappy, but I wasn't paying much attention to be honest.
Cheers for the comments RoastBeef.
Where did you stay? We're going to Club A on the 21st.
Was there enough snow to do skidoo'ing? The Mrs saw it on the holiday programme and wants to do it again. (We did it in Cervinia a few years ago)
JC, where did you find that snowforecase info of 29cm? Thx.
www.snow-forecast.com
althuogh they've reduced it to about 23cm, of which maybe 16cm would probably remain.
its now looking like we wont experience any heavy snow fall for upto 3 weeks... guess I'll be bringing my swimming trunks.
cheers for the posts roastbeef, guess I'll be drinking a lot more than I'll be riding this year ;)
Blimey guys, have a heart for those of us going out this Sunday :sm004:
Either way when i get back on Monday i'll upload some photos of the resort / hotel / snow situation to give you guys an idea of what to expect (for those that haven't been)
I'll be watching the webcams all week :)
Anyone here going this weekend? or is it all the 21st?
hmm well it's looking a bit dubious for the skiing for any of us! I just hope the slopes they are currently resting they leave closed so those going out may have some kind of snow! The current runs must be getting worn!
I'm looking forward to the nice break and spending some time with my bf. The snow will be a bonus xD

That's what I've been thinking too, we don't go out until the 14th so by then I expect that it will be a case of skiing totally straight to get over all the ice which will have formed, no need to be practising my turns then :sm006:
i guess this all adds to the serbian experience... with the levels of ice and rocks i guess the blue runs will be turned into black runs ;)
kopaonik will make a man of me
lol I have been known to break down and cry when I get to steep icey parts xD I hate the way one ski suddenly drops about 2 feet and the other stays nicely dug into the side. Instant splits xD
If you see a poor girl crying on the mountain side take heart and help her BF carry her down :D
hello,
norry - i am going out on sunday. very scared about the snow situation and i'm not liking the fog that seems to have swamped kopaonik this morning....
i know, 4.45 is not a time you should have to be anywhere. i will be bringing matchsticks for the eyelids and an IV drip of pure caffeine to the airport....still, at least the bus ride should be in the light, so we can see exactly how close we are to dropping off the edge of the mountain and plummeting to our deaths...should wake us up a bit....
