Can anyone read weather maps?
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13...6th850temp.gif
That looks like a very appealling cold front that could effect kop.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13.../26th850mb.gif
On the same day there could also be enough humidity to fall as snow... does this mean that from the 25th to the 29th kop could expect a little snow?
I hope so as it looks like it could warm up a little from the 30th :glavaozid
my gut tells me we're not going to get any heavy snow till halfway into january (although I'm still holding my breath for a big dump on the 3rd/4th :ok: )
what a terrible pre-season we've had.
If that's what's going to happen on the 26th and a good dump comes along that would be the best birthday present I could ask for at the minute.
I keep kidding myself that the top of the mountain is going to be very different but the web site shows no runs open :glavaozid
oo thanks for the info on the other site. Gives me more to hit refresh continuously when I'm at work xD
I look forward to seeing a nice big snow update when they come back to work!! I hope they do get a nice fall the first week of jan, that will be more than ideal! As long as what we have doesn't disappear before then LOL
I wouldn't expect much snow - there isn't enough moisture forecasted.Citirati:

haha the forecast has just changed as well, looks like the cold/wet front now skips round kopaonik on the 3rd/4th... I give up on watching the weather maps.
I'm just going to pray.

Can you tell I'm hungover?:couto:
We went to Kop last year, bucket loads of snow, but very, very cold!
It did warm up at the end of the week, we went 21st Jan for a week. Going a week earlier this year because of kids exams!
Children had never skiied before - when we got back we saw the programme on the Beeb. The children's ski instructor is the girl who taught our girls - they really enjoyed it and by the end of the week (only 6 & 8) they were skiing down some of the easier slopes with us!
There's plenty of slopes to keep everyone busy and for any doubters I've got some mobile phone clips showing the snow levels for last year, not sure how to down load them mind!!! The resort is better for beginners and intermediate skiiers... my son was a bit bored with the black runs after a couple of days, mind you he's 13 and if it doesn't go click and involve a computer screen then it's boring anyway!
It looks like there's no point in even taking our boards for next week if there are no lifts open.
I'll have to take a tennis racket instead.

I've done several snow dances at my desk (disguised as christmas dances... my colleagues would think me strange if they thought I was snow dancing)
Roastbeef, you have my sympathy - you might want to try heading over the border to bosnia they have 70cm of snow
How far is the border?
And how do I get there!
absolutely no idea, it looks about 100km on the map... but i have no idea how long it would take or how you'd get there.Citirati:

its meant to be much more challenging than kop.
To have really good snow the cars on that webcam need to be covered! If they're not covered by the 16th January have a look at it on the 17th January at about 10am - you'll see me bearing my arse to all of those disappointed people, anxiously watching it for snow!
If you can see my arse, cancel your holiday and get yourself off to Canada. If you can't see my arse that's because it's either too foggy or I've managed to find that hire car I've just enquired about my my arse will be with me heading North West to the Alps!
Here's to keeping a warm arse!

I've just had an email from the chappy who was our instructor last year. He lives in Belgrade, this is what he's just said about the weather...
As far as snow is concerned, there is still no need to worry, but the truth is - you never know for sure. The mountain is unpredictable, and if the snow falls for a couple of days (two or three) there could be plenty of snow. Usually, this time of year there is not enough snow, but we are always expecting it around New Year. My friends - the instructors are going to the mountain this weekend so we will have constant reports on snow coverage before you arrive :). I hope you won't be disappointed.
So hopefully snow should be good... but just to be on the safeside I'm still looking for that hire car!
Timbo, thanks for the update.
JC, Roastbeef - It's good to know i'm not the only one constantly watching the camera, my missus has given me so much grief this last week or so - think she's feeling neglected - if she was white and cold she would be getting shed loads of attention :)
Here we all are praying for snow and not even giving a though to what father Christmas is going to bring us. I might send a new letter asking for lots of snow in Kop throughout the whole of January.
Keep up the snow dances people, I give you my word I will do the same at this end (as soon as the hangover clears up and I can go 10 mins without feeling the need to boff).
Weather say that there will be light snow on monday !!!:) :) :)
lol I will be looking on the camera at 10am on the 17th Jan! Don't let me down Timbo :p Hopefully you will be burried in snow though!
I've told myself not to panic until 15th January (going 21st). However I am relying on you guys that are going earlier to let us know what we're supposed to do if there is no snow >.<
strange girl.... the last thing I want to see on the kopaonik camera is timbo's arse - so I'll look an hour later ;)Citirati:

Yeah they're this year.
The snow isn't looking good for Europe until way into January; the high looks like its not only hanging on but getting hotter! Theres a strong possibility that the 20 cm's on the ground today will of all melted by the time the fresh snow arrives.
Tomorrow and Tuesday should see a little snow, with another dusting on the 31st... Then on the 3rd/4th of January onwards (depending on what the high does) I reckon we could see upto 10cm of snow.
But I wouldn't expect any heavy snowfall untill well into January, possibly february :couto:
Last evening I returned from Kopaonik ( if you didn't know the right name of this beautiful mountain is Kopanik without letter o between a and n :) I read somewhere).
The fact is that I have skiing yesterday:), but...
It was opened just one line (Mali Karaman) with 9,5 minutes ride up (in full season not more 4-4,5 minutes need); :sm008:
Snow: just enough for good ride, on few spots you can see the ground:sm008:
On two lines nearby Pancic snow guns done good job:)
Think JC is right :"But I wouldn't expect any heavy snowfall untill well into January, possibly february"
But you can expect good fun and lot of entertainment there.
Wellcome.

Hi, I think we've all been watching the webcam on the Jat appartments. I don't know if anyone else has found this website, but there seems to be a live webcam on it... it shows the area in front of the main ski school, by the basketball pitches, and at the bottom of the main new lift up to Kopanik mountain... you can actually see people on skis!
http://www.kopaonik-genex.com/eng/in...209&Itemid=192
Yep, there's definitely people skiing... mind you alot of black on the pavements and the roof buildings... sad to say there was none last year!
The website gives the username of kop and password of kop... Don't spend too long squinting at the website you'll melt what little snow there is!
Nice find Timbo... that's a new addition to the genex site :dziveli:
Nice to see that despite the rapidly depleting snow levels, runs are still open.
Matrix, how many snow canons did you count? I was under the impression there weren't any... You just made me a very happy man.
The GFS looks terrible today, the tempratures look set to rise again and any chance of snow before the 10th seems a distant dream :( Anything that would of fallen as snow has either disappeared or looks set to drop as sleet or rain.
If you're going before the 21st I would be on my knees praying daily as the anticyclone over europe is refusing to budge :awm2:
Had the big do we go don't we go debate yesterday??? We are due out on the 14th but there seems no point in going if there's going to be little or no skiing, also the kids will be bored shedless, there's only so much you can do on a mud hill.
The spending money would need to be trebled to pay for daytime activities, it might just be best to cancel get 30% of my cash back and go later in the year. I'm depressed, was really looking forward to skiing on Kop it looked great.
when's the deadline for your cancel date?
A lot can happen in 3 weeks, weather forecasts aren't an exact science and are often way out... The problem for snow conditions has been an anticyclone over europe (which can probably hold out for another week), if you can wait a week I'd watch what happens between the 2nd & 4th as this will determine what weather Kop should expect.
If you've booked with Thomson/Crystal you might want to give them a ring as until they've issued the tickets you can move your holiday date (sometimes for as little as the administration fees... a lot less harsh than losing 70% of your money).
Alrite JC hope you had a good Xmas, pitty Santa didn't bring us 6 weeks positive snow forecast.
We are booked with Thomsons and last week we asked if we could put the dates back to Feb and were told we would lose 70% as we are within 8 weeks of departure, I though that was a bit steep myself??
Not sure what to do now, this morning we've been discussing the option of trying to transfer to Andorra or somewhere like that, they have the snow but the down side is it's characterless, whereas Kop looks full of tradition and charm.
I expect that admin fees will be extortionate if we did decide to change. The missus suggested binning the snow and transfering to Tenerife/Gran Canaria but I need to ski :ski: I desperately need my fix of adrenaline!!!
The long range forecasts look crap, it's the same all over Eastern Europe, the runs aren't open in Bulgaria yet either.
Who knows.................I can't bl**dy decide.............s*d it I'm off down the pub:cug:
Cafu IMHO I think what JC is saying would be the best thing to do. Conditions can change dramatically, even over night. Weather forcasting is not an exact science, even with todays technology! Wait till the week before and make decisions then.
Here's the small print from Thompson if you are travelling with them (or Crystal) which gives details of cancellation refunds etc. - Basically not much I'm afaraid.
http://www.thomsonski.co.uk/termsandconditions.html
Personally I would go for it anyway, (as I am anyway- like you guys on 14th). I have skied for over 35 years (more than 70 weeks) and have not had some snow to play on. Even if just a couple of runs are open there is still lots of fun to be had, games to play and technique to work on. I know that sounds far from ideal but you guys have worked hard to pay for your holiday and will have some very dissappointed nippers to deal with if you cancel. Believe you me, I will be extreemly dissapointed if there is absolutly no snow.
I hope you do decide to go, even more that we get a dump the week we go or better still when we are there, and we meet up in Kop for a bevvie or some!
Scootsman, not sure what line of work you're in but I would guess in it being a diplomat of some sort :) LOL, that sounds like the voice of reason to me and having put it like that I suppose my glass could be half full and not half empty.
I would guess that we will still be going so a pre flight bevvie at Gatwick could be on the cards :cug: .
I will just have to keep praying for snow in the meantime.
Take it easy:ok:
Morning, a friend of mine's son has just come back from Chamonix - one broken arm and concussion! The snow ran out but he kept going... Dad was supposed to be flying out today with his lad to Chamonix but has had to cancel... he wants to know about Kop now.
I said to bring his lad on the 14th because the snow might have run out there as well and he can break his other arm!
What about if we all go outside and blow as hard as we can in the direction of the anticyclone and see if we can move it, praying doesn't seem to be working. The live webcam at Kop that I've been looking at has changed angle from last night, it's looking towards the bottom of slope 14 I think... it's too far in the distance to see if anyone is skiing but there seems to be a few people around the bottom of the slope!
http://www.kopaonik-genex.com/eng/in...209&Itemid=192
:glavaozid
If you choose tenerife over kopaonik you're insane (kids or no kids) ;)
After reading thomsons T&C it looks like if you cancel between today and the 6th you're going to lose 90% of your money... As weather is unpredictable I'd take my chance with kop... Pretty much every forecaster has predicted snow from mid-January onwards.
There's a little hope for the second week of January... I wouldn't cancel anything just yet.
Timbo, there's been people skiing all morning :ok:
Does anyone know how hard it is to get to http://www.go2jahorina.com/ from kop?
JC - I've stopped tripping over my bottom lip now so will defo be heading out on 14th. I'm sure all will be well by then :ok: , I've put my negativity yesterday down to a hangover (AGAIN), why oh why do we keep doing this to ourselves every Christmas :dziveli: .
Roll on 14th Jan.............................
we hav'nt booked yet cause of the snow thing............i thought it was too good to be true:dontknow:
we will probably do a last minute thing to somewhere else........but i want to go to kop now!!
Hi fellow Kopites!
Hope everyone had a fantatic Christmas and that Santa brought everything that everyone wanted! Shame he didnt manage to bring snow to Serbia. Never mind. Im sure it'll all be fine in the end.
