I normally look on:

http://www.madeinserbia.net/Weather/Kopaonik.html

Or

www.weather.co.uk (http://www.weather.co.uk)

I think JC uses the MET Office pressure charts which show the projected movements of the pressure bands and precipitation which is quite helpful (yet sometimes depressing in the past :) ).

www.snow-forecast.com is also great if you want a boost, they tend to be generous with their snow forecasts; which leaves a warm glow inside ;)

think we'll be left with a 25cm base by tomorrow afternoon, which will hopefully be topped up a few times over the next couple of weeks, don't see any signs of any large dumps for a while (but the charts are even more unpredictable than usual as weather is due a change mid january - so nothing is certain).

However, I'd bet a glass of rakija that it'll snow just before the 21st... which is a stroke of luck for us 21sters.

lets hope I'm right

Does anyone know where they are taking this measurement from? Is it like at the top or bottom of the slope?

Or is it a case of someone just sticking a ruler outside their front door and seeing what they get xD

Although i cant exactly see much! The live webcam isnt working for me. And i cant see much on the static one. (hopefully because of a snow storm rather than fog this time!)

We were going to stay at the Grand but we have a single person coming with us and when we booked there were no single rooms available and they wanted to charge the full amount for a second person to be in that room as the supplement.

The Club A looks ok though. Most reports ive read says it ok, just a little dated!

Do you know that at those prices, you guys seems to be paying LESS for the hotels than us locals !? It even seems that your ski-pass is cheaper, and I am talking in absolute, nominal terms - not even taking into account the average income. Hello!

I went to Kop in February last year. It was my first time snowboarding and I loved it! So we are going again on 4th Feb, really excited about snowboarding again :)

Last year we stayed at Aparthotel Konaci and we were half board, and I must say that the half board food wasn't to my taste at all (or the rest of our group). So this year we are going self catering.

rizlag
03.01.2007, 17:30
my views the same went half board last year and the food wasnt great, there are 4 of us going...

with regards to eating toast all week i can live on that as im taking me tub of marmite along with me the other plus is at least i can have toast when ever i want lol

Most people seem to complain about Eastern European food. You pick a skiing holiday (esp a 'cheaper' one) for skiing, not cuisine!

I was in Bulgaria last year, the food is different, but was all edible. And if we wanted a night out to eat in a restaurant, it wasn't too expensive.

£55 for six or seven days?

"We" pay 8000 dinars (£69) for six and 9100 dinars (£79) for seven days.

Can somebody elese no-serbian write here how much do thay pay for the ski pass?

This is for six days.

This is the price that we have to pay through our tour operator. (Crystal)

Im guessing as they promise they will bring "x" amount of customers they get (and then us as cutomers) a discounted rate.

Also, for anyone who pre books thier equipment and ski school, they get their lift pass for nothing.

Not sure about the hotels, it's been a while since I've been there, but I think that breakfast is the same all over the world... not adequate! (never went to really high class hotel, though)
But in the restaurants up there it should be ok, for you guys it shouldn't be too expensive, and there's plenty to choose if you're not a vegetarian, 'couse we generaly eat a lot of meat in Serbia, so I think there are several barbecue places up there, small, fast-food like, that you should try. Most of them are located in Konaci circle, there's pretty much everything you'll need...

everyday the models change however I do like what Alan Reppert has to say about the coming month:

"The Adriatic region will see more in the way of above normal rain/snowfall, but still nothing too far above normal. Temperatures will be much closer to normal, especially over northern Italy, but I do see it still being a bit above normal, closer to 1-3 degrees F."

However he then goes on to say:

"Southeastern Europe will likely see some more in the way of above normal rainfall, and I think it will be turning more on the mild side for the area. Normal rainfall should be more widespread for the region, though snowfall may be a bit harder to find with the much colder air well off to the north. "

Hopefully by the north he means Serbia, but even an above average rainfall should be fantastic news for kop as at its altitude it should hopefully fall as snow.

The GFS is predicting a storm over Spain in a few days time, my worst fear is that this could push loads of warm air over kopaonik preventing any decent snowfall before our holiday... If I watch that snow melt away to nothing AGAIN it would be the end of me.

I'm starting to develop a love/hate relationship for mount kop ;)

I still think theres a strong chance it will snow around the time we arrive... theres a lot of activity in the GFS around the 21st... i don't think theres much chance of the snow level dropping below 20cm so I'm guessing we'll be playing in enough snow to satisfy my needs :sm011:

The models tend to go no further 2/3 weeks into the future, so you'll have to wait a week or two.

But looking that far into the future isn't reliable, anything over a week is highly likely to change... I base my 21st optimism on the storms traveling across Europe, pretty much every model has at some stage shown at least one of these storms crossing Serbia's border.

The odds are in our favour.

we're going on the 21st too, everyone seems to be!

Does anyone know if the snow that is there now is likley to last till then, bit worried bout the sleet forecast for the 20th?

3 cm's to fall today
15cm's (maybe) on the 22nd
7cm's (maybe) on the 27th

of course this will probably change, but its looking less and less likely that the snow level will reach 50cm for the 21st :(

Pete don't worry (no :hair:) Serbia is far from a third world. It is not all as it is in UK but most of the thing are changing to better. After a lot years of isolation Serbia invested a lot in it's Ski facilities and they are the best in this part of Europe. I traveled to other ski resorts in the region but when it comes to ski infrastructure Kop is the best and the biggest it has the capacity of around 22.500 skiers per hour.

In the couple of years you will see a new ski center in Serbia Stara Planina (Old mountain). It is the biggest undeveloped ski resort in Europe with the potential of 200 km of ski tracks. This is the first year when it is operational with only two ski lifts and main investment is expected in 2007 and 2008. :sm019: :ski:

that dusting was great!

looks wintery again... next friday should see a similar amount of snow fall as well... hopefully that'll keep the snowlevels up for our holiday.

And give those poor buggers going out on sunday some fresh pow to play in.

The weather is still touch and go for our holiday... it seems to look like no more than 20cm over a couple of days at the moment... but there are some decent possible storms very close to kopaonik - they just need to nudge a little closer to our mountain.

Unfortunatly theres only about 8cm forecast for the days prior to that.... whats certain is there is plenty of percipitation forecast for the week commencing the 21st.... Lets just hope they have their dates wrong and we get the big dump at the beginning ;)

As you can see from the above image we could see as little as 5cm's until the end of our holiday... The weather maps keep shifting the dump further and further back... This is turning into a very depressing week.

Anyone that can compare weather maps to breasts is pretty special.

One thing the charts have been consistant with is that there will be percipitation when we're there... but when it drops hasn't been decided yet.

I'm crossing everything for the 22nd (21st seems but a dream).

-JC-
15.01.2007, 16:55
Munchio, posted this a few pages back (you wont see the exact graph I joined two graphs together):

Goto: http://www.arl.noaa.gov/ready/cmet.html?

type:

Latitude: 43.28
Longtitude: 20.8

click continue, then choose 0-180h GFS on the meteogram option, then type the password... This will give you a good percipitation forecast; to calculate how much snow will fall multiply the percipitation by 8-10.. if there's 2mm of rain it could fall as 2cm of snow.

Next visit: http://www.arl.noaa.gov/ready/animations.html

Scroll down to europe find the row named "MSLP, 1000-500mb Thickness, & Precipitation" and select the long range GFS gif option, this will give you an easy to follow percipitation forecast at a slightly lower altitude.

That should cover every angle :)

But I trust weather charts as much as I trust politicians!!
there's an old joke about indians asking their profit about the forecoming winter... the profit says that the winter will be cold. So the indians prepared extra wood, fur and all the other things that may come in handy. Winter came and passed, they didn't need to use any of it. Next year they asked again. "This will be the coldest winter in the past 10 years", the profit said. So the tribe prepared everything again for extra cold winter, and it was mild again. Third year profit said "This will be the coldest winter in the past 100 years!" So the indians prepared tons of wood, killed hundreds of animals for fur and prepared everything, only to see another autumn-like winter. So when they came the forth year, the profit said "I need a day to think about it!' So he went down the mountain straight to the town's meteorology centre and said to the guys there: "Ok, guys, please help me, I will loose my influence in the tribe, I'm being wrong for 3 years now, what's winter gona be like this year?"
And the guys said:"This will be the coldest winter ever, the indians are preparing for it for the past 3 years!!!":glavaozid
