Hi everyone.

We are visiting your great resort in January and are staying at the Club A hotel.

Is there any snow yet, and is there a webcam available that i can see?

Many thanks in advance.

hi stranger, first of all I have to tell you that you made a great decision for your winter holiday! If you have never been on Kopaonik you will definitely like it. In a few past years it became a real, modern ski center, well...you will see it. do you ski or snowboard
By the way, where are you from, and when precisely are you coming(which week(s) in january)?
greetings from Serbia

Thanks NSboader.

I was originally a skier, but for the past few holidiays i've been using blades.

Alot of people say its not real skiing, but i enjoy enjoy it. Its fun and thats all that matters.

Having said that, i might give boarding a try this year.

I'm from England and have mostly skied in Italy and a couple of times in Switzerland.

There are 6 of us coming over on the 21st of January for one week. We cant wait.

I've been looking at Stevs photos for months since i came into contact with him on the snowheads forum.

I heard that skiing in Alps in Italy is real adventure, but I have never been there, so I am looking forward to go there.
After skiing there and in switzerland most people think they will be dissapointed with Kopaonik, but it is not true-there is a lot of snow(especially in the end of january and first two weeks in februaru), all slopes are working full time(from 9am-4pm), mountain is not too brutal (rigorous) so it is sunny almost every day.
Maybe you heard that in the past few years on kopaonik is coming a lot of strangers(especially englishmen), for the example, I met three diferent men from london in one day last year, while sitting on cableway.
This year I will spend same week on kopaonik as you, so, who knows, maybe we see each other there!
We are excited as you, not just because you are coming here, but of our hope that you will come home with a new experience, and you will share your impressions (I hope good) with us.
P.S. there are no english pubs on Kopaonik:) :dziveli: !

:) What do you mean by "english pubs"?

We are coming to expericance the real Serbia. We have seen some tv clips of Kopaonik before on one of our holiday tv programmes on the BBC and it looks very nice ( http://www.tckopaonik.com/winter-videos/kopaonik-on-youtube-2.html )

I think the slopes in the Alps are possibly steeper than Kop. It's been described that the Alps are mountains, where as Kop is more of a hill. We are bringing my son for his first skiing holiday so we thought that it would be better for that. Also a different culture which is always good to experiance.

Also it is about half the price than going to the alps.

I am just kidding:ok:

So, you are probably a (very) good skier because you were on Alps and in Switzerland. Belive me, it won't be boring for you on Kop, there are some "real"(black) slopes, so you can test your skills there. And of course there are slopes for beginers, so you don't have to worry for your son.

cheers

My wife is thinking about having some boarding lessons.

Can anyone reccomend a good school and what sort of prices should they be?

diplomata

I hawe nothing on my mine but why did yuo or your wife preferred a board ???

but if thet's your wish, its ok for mi !!!

There national school of ski on Kopaonik, whats inclose and boardin lessons and it wos last year around 10€ by one classe or one hour practice on snow.

NSboarder
05.11.2006, 21:00
as DIPLOMATA said, there is a national school on Kop, but I think that price he wrote is not correct.

I am not sure are we thinking of same ski and board school, but I know that last year it was 21 euro for one individual which last one hour of course.

I am sure that school (about which I am talking about) has more instructors than every ski and board school there, and most people "use" that school. if that is too high price, she can have classes in group which is much lower price, but she can't learn even half what she learn on an individual class, indeed.

my recommend is to take two or three individual classes in one day, and two days of it will be more than enough.it is your decision.

diplomata
05.11.2006, 21:12
maybe you are right, individual class is expensive !!! My price is vith group... thet is ceeaper then individual class !!!!

NSboarder is right !!!

Thanks for the advise.

I think we'll book her some individual lessons as she will learn faster and beter doing it that way.

Is there any email address' or websites for the schools?

diplomata
05.11.2006, 22:34
I think you should look at the official page of kopaonik

www.kopaonik.net (http://www.kopaonik.net)

there is with serbian, english version of site, it must be something herein !!!

Hi,

Good to hear that there's a nice bed of snow down already!! Can anybody tell how good the hire skis and boots are in Kop. I had a bad experience with hired boots in Bulgaria and ended up with sore spots where the neck of the boot liner was worn out.

Would I be better getting my own boots and taking them?

Thanks for any help.

Hi CAFU, what's up?!
well, you see there is a plenty of great ski and board equipment for rent on Kopaonik.
But it is always better to have your own equipment because then you know what you have, if you understand me.
I don't know where are you from and is it hard for you to go on trip to Kop with boots, but you should do it.
and if you don't have boots yet, don't hurry with buying, just have a good look of all and try every boot to be sure which is the right one.
that is all, I hope I helped
cheers

NS boarder,

Thanks for the info, I will perhaps take my own boots but also have a look at the hire boots as my own are not new.

Am looking forward to visiting Kop, we are travelling as a family and my 9 year old son is excited about getting skis on again.

January will be here very soon - I hope!!

Cheers

Hi all,

This seems to be the english speaking thread :)

I'm off to kop on the 21st and coming back on the 28th, I was wondering whether the national holidays will of finished by then?

I hate lift queues.

no_snow_in_swindon did they change your flight plan too? I've had to cancel my non-refundable flight, book a new flight and a hotel.... although on the brightside; I'll get to serbia faster... silver lining and all that ;)

cheers all
Joe

JC,

I think that the national holidays will have finsihed by then, we fly out on the 14th jan which I believe is the Serbian New Years day. I expect that we will face some queues but hopefully by mid week this won't be too bad - fingers crossed.

The main thing about all that is holidays in schools!
Tomorow I'll find information(because I don't know) and you will be the first...
Anyway, there are 3-4 new 4-seated chairlifts at the places which were most frequent last years so I belive it will be much better, don't worry!
Sorry because of my english

Yes they changed our flights aswell so we must have the same flights.

6.30am!!! We're gonna book into a hotel at Gatwick rather than setting off stupidly early!

So you at the Airport. We'll have to have a pre flight beer in the Shakespear pub! :dziveli:

this is a photo of kopaonik taken on the 12th of this month.... I spy snow.

Cafu the holidays go on for 3 weeks I think - hopefully these new lifts will take the pain away... I've read that if you use the old lifts theres no queues - but it may take you half the day to reach the top as they're very slow.

Dobrica thanks for the advice and your English was perfect... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi my wife and I are arriving in Kop next Sunday and spending a week at The Grand. Can't wait!

I been checking the Webcam and snow forecasts for the last 2 weeks and I nearly peed my pants when it was snowing last monday!!!

I can see that the snow at the base is about 6-8cm but what about higher up? I'd usually expect more the higher you go?
Also when does the resort oficially open? The websites still show all the lifts are closed.
